It is week 1 of the Declutter Challenge. What a great way to start out the year letting go of clutter and excess.
We are going to start off in the living room/ family room. There will be a fair share of cleaning during and after the decluttering.
Here are you necessary supplies:
- Dust cloths
- Trash Bags
- Sorting boxes
Give your living room a quick looking over. Are there book on shelves that no one is going to read again? Are your storage solutions full to overflowing? How about closets? Are they a hazard?
There are the questions that came to my mind when I looked at my living room. Bookcases need to be thinned out. My closet is actually a dangerous thing because of folding chairs ready to fall out. My game/dvd trunk was a mess.
Empty out a space and give it a good dusting. Go through each item. Touch it. Decide… are you going to keep it or give it away. Put it in the appropriate box or bag.
Here is how my trunk declutter went:
The pieces to games had fallen out of boxes and were scattered. The DVD’s were completely buried under table games. So… we weren’t watching them.
The DVD’s were not only buried but we were unable to see the titles.
I emptied out the cedar trunk and found all the loose game pieces. I taped up broken boxes and gave a few of the games to charity.
We will have a few games on top of the DVD’s but… we can quickly lift them and see the titles of the DVD’s. Oh… and I organized the DVD’s by genre and by family member. So much easier to find what we are looking for. We want to eventually get the DVD’s into plastic covers and throw away the plastic cases but in the mean time this system will work.
I have a few more space to declutter and clean out. Check my Instagram account throughout the week to see what I am getting done. I will post before and after pictures. The link to my Instagram is at the top of this page.
